Three Hares painting by dashinvaine Three Hares painting by dashinvaine
Oil on board, 60x55 cm. 24x22 inches) Includes gold and silver metallic paint.

Original for sale: [link]

Three hares, joined by the ears, running around a continuous landscape, through the four seasons, and through night and day. The three hares is a motif common in medieval Europe, (especially in Devon churches, for some reason) but it has been found as far away as China. In fact the oldest examples are found in Buddhist cave art.

The landscape here was intended to have an English look, but the yin and yang shape of the sky alludes to the far east, where the motif of the three hares seems to have originated. This is the first figurative painting I've done that doesn't have a proper way up to be. (I might have it mounted on a pivot, actually, so it cam spin round.)

Something in this picture has touched me. Like the autumn and the overall spirit of this.

Hmmm, this didn't come up in my inbox, but it seemed rather familiar in style anyway. Very nice, I love the blending of the seasons a lot. Lots of rotation with this piece I can imagine. ;-)
