Because my gallery is needing some testosterone. Also because my hometown (Princes Risborough) is named after him, due to his holding the local manor. His main base was the Berkhamsted castle, which isn't far away, now in ruins. He is best known for taking a leading part in some major English victories in France, including the battles of Crecy and Poitiers, and the capture of Calais. He was a founder of the chivalric Order of the Garter. He also led a devastating raid (chevauchee) in the south of France, which included a sack of the city of Carcassonne.
