Dragon and Captive reloaded by dashinvaine Dragon and Captive reloaded by dashinvaine
Another chance to enjoy Dragon and Captive. Except this time I've attempted to fix the value problem which was making the wing seem to blend in with the mountains behind. I've darkened the edges of the wing and lightened the background a bit.

I personally think, if I was a dragon, I'd have better things to do than eat young virgins.  But then again, this is probably one of those primitive dragons that likes to hoard gold, eat anything that moves, and can barely speak.

I like the drawing better. I think the girl's face looks prettier, I like the smooth hair better and that she is topless. I'm curious to know why you decided to have her be fully clothed? Other than that the painting is an improvement. The dragon looks much better in color (I think green was a good choice) and the background is more detailed.

I have never understand why dragons always kidnapt beautiful womens just like if it was imperative for their live. It looks like they have a role in the reproduction cycle of dragons ^^

It's a dragon thing. A bit like sleeping on a pile of treasure. You wouldn't understand.

When will dragons realize that no matter how attractive young virgin (I assume...) maidens are, there's not really any point in capturing them? 99% of dragons with captives get killed by St. George or some other dude. One more half-percent gets killed by the feminist captive (feminist damsel-in-distress FTW!), and I'm guessing the final 0.5% ends up with a lovely little skeleton to put in their treasure trove.

St George in this case ended up toast.

Well, you know saints. They're hardly saints unless they die interesting deaths... although there is the case of Thomas Aquinas, who I believe managed to die a normal death...

That's unless he was poisoned by other churchmen in order either to claim his body as holy relics or to prevent his attending the Council of Lyons...

Just curious again, I`m searching after a good art school in England. And I`m just wondering wich college/university is the best (you`re from England right?). I heard about Cambridge but is it good?

There's not much in England, as far as I know, in terms of traditional art. Modernism's taken over all the academies, even the RA's dominated by abstractionists. A most deplorable state of affairs. If you want to train in classical realism, you're better off looking for somewhere in America (eg. The Granc Central Academy of Art) or Italy (eg. Angel Academy of Art).

If you find out differently, let me know. To pursue realist drawing and painting you're best to study 'illustration' rather than 'fine art'. 'Modern' artists take a dim view of any art that involves skill and craft, and you don't want to be turned into a conceptual poseur.

Thats to bad that the modernismen is taking over. I cant completly understand the "happenings", "installations" and the "abstractions" the artists make. some of them looks crap!

I'm in the Art Institute in America. I had to do abstracts for a design class. I had a choice for my final project for the class, I didn't paint a freakin' abstract ! I did my piece Ariel in the Springtime.

I hate abstracts, I was pulling stuff out of my backside and still getting complements,it was embarrassing.

It really depresses me what gets held up as fine art in this country these days. 100 years ago it was a golden age for people with our sort of taste. It's an artistic dark age now, a wildeness of crap.

Everyone has their level, and to me at least, it doesn't matter what that level is, only that they exercise their talent and try to improve. :)

I like your style most of all though, because it's not trying to be too clever, and it might have been the way I progressed had I not given up on 'manual' art.

Everyone has way of doing things, and I often get negative comments because my work is too 'clean' but I like the end result, and in a way, that is my 'style'....

In short, just keep doing what you do - fantasy and imagination are the cornerstones of creation.

Still it would be nice to see you attempt something a bit more dynamic... Technically your stuff is always top notch and the design element is always strong, but there's never much life.
