Artist's Comments

Oil on board, 62x62cm. (Not a great photograph of the painting, unfortunately. My new camera's having teething problems, and the old one's gone blind.)

I put a dragon design on my business card, only to realize that I'd never actually painted a proper dragon. I thought I'd remedy that. My father came over and saw this one, and gave it the alternative title "Not St George's Day".

We might be in for a spate of dragons after this, by the way -the next big thing after Templars, vampires, mermaids and skeletons.

Comments and crits welcome.

Your dragons are superb, the snow on the stones is very realistic and the girl is lovely, great work in my book!

By the way long time ago we spoke a few comments about me flora painting, I entirely redid it after disgesting your comments, so you are welcome to visit her again and perhaps find her a bit more to your liking.
I also changed the frightening/frightened eye of the avatar.
It is not that I am so easily influenced, I am too old for that ;-); but you were right on both counts, so I thank you for it, it gives a better drawing and a sweeter avatar ;-)

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some more Dashinvaine Dragon Paintings. =D This one is great, and full of fun details that one might miss without settling down in front of it for some time: A defeated (and crushed) knight, smokey breath, a dragon-head cap on the post, a breath-ignited fire, scattered human bones, and a wonderfully-rendered medieval "Maiden" outfit complete with flower wreaths. Awesome work, Dash.

Not St. George's Day, indeed. Not by a long shot. :giggle:

I just cant stop staring at it! It`s lovely and very detailed! You made a perfect choice with the colours. Probably the best painting ever! :)

It's gorgeous. You've done a great job on the rocks and snow, beautifully lit. And the captive is stunning - the dragon seems all too eager to get to her now that he's trounced the tinned-food-knight offering :)
brilliant painting

Wow, this is just fantastic, dude!!! If you don't mind me asking, who are some of your inspirations and influences regarding your art?

Great forms. The girl looks GREAT and the dragon has some nice textures and an unusual color that I find cool. Not sure if its the camera or not, but the top of the pole seems to be less crisp than so much of the other details and its a little distracting to me. The setting is classic and the details (scratches on the post, smoke, coal, skulls) are very well handled. Bravo.

That issue annoys me to (and her feet look blurred). I've had trouble with my new camera. It seems to be ok for close ups but it all goes blurry when i try to get the whole thing in. Even here I've had to fudge it in photoshop and meld a close-up of the princess with a photo of the wider scene. It's either too clever for its own good, or else not designed for photographing artwork. I'll see about getting a better photo at some stage. You can add this to M&M by the way, if you think it would suit.
