Cresson by dashinvaine Cresson by dashinvaine
The eve of the Battle of Cresson, Nazareth, May 1187. Gerard de Riderfort, Grand Master of the Knights Templar, orders the suicdal charge by 140 knights against a vastly superior force of 7,000 Saracens. Jacquelin de Mailly, the Marshal, challenges the order, only to be asked by the Master if he valued his blonde head so much that he was affraid to lose it. As it was, Jacquelin was finally cut down, and fell atop a pile of the enemy he had slain, while Gerard de Ridefort escaped from the carnage, only to precipitate an even greater disaster for the Kingdom of Jerusalem, later that year, at Hattin.

A very humbling history lesson. What utter arrogance of the man to make such a condescending remark, only to ride away and escape death himself.

Excellent as usual... I know a little bt about the 12th century, a little before my time for I read 13th and 14th history. However besides that this battle was major for the knights; the crusades that insued after were riddled full of famous royal deaths.

These just suck me into the time they present. No hint of modern stylization there and that's the way it should be. :) The helm at the right is a great detail.
